Flame retardant (FR) batteries use cases and lids that resist ignition and self-extinguish, reducing fire risk in data centers, telecom shelters, rail and oil & gas sites. KPS supplies EnerSys batteries with flame-retardant containers in Egypt and helps engineers and consultants select a range that meets the project fire specification.
Authorized EnerSys distributor in Egypt · ISO 9001, 14001, 45001 and 50001 certified · 250+ projects delivered · 300+ clients served
What makes a battery flame retardant
The rating applies to the plastic container and lid. The most common reference is UL94: a V-0 rating means a vertical test sample stops burning within 10 seconds without flaming drips. Some UPS batteries also reference UL 1778, the UL standard for UPS equipment.
EnerSys ranges with flame-retardant containers
Always confirm the exact rating for the specific model and configuration on the latest datasheet; KPS includes it in every proposal.

- Telecom shelters and rooftop sites
- Rail, metro and tunnel systems
- Hospitals and public buildings
- Oil & gas and petrochemical facilities
Fire safety is a system, not only a case
- Correct charging: float voltage and temperature compensation set to the manufacturer values
- Ventilation: battery room design to the applicable standards
- Monitoring: early warning of hot or failing blocks
- Layout: spacing, cabling and protection devices sized for the string
Flame retardant batteries: FAQs
What does FR mean on a battery?
FR stands for flame retardant. It means the battery case and lid are made from a plastic that resists ignition and stops burning on its own, usually tested to the UL94 standard.
What is UL94 V-0?
UL94 is a flammability test for plastics. V-0 is its highest rating for vertical samples: the flame must stop within 10 seconds, with no flaming drips. Batteries with a UL94 V-0 case and lid help limit fire spread in battery rooms.
Do I need flame-retardant batteries?
FR batteries are commonly specified for data halls, telecom shelters, hospitals, tunnels and rail, and sites with strict fire codes or consultant specifications. KPS checks your project specification and recommends a compliant range.
Which EnerSys batteries have a flame-retardant case?
On our range, UL94 V-0 cases are listed for PowerSafe V-TT, PowerSafe VM, Genesis TD, Hawker EvoRail and Hawker PerfectRail. DataSafe HX has a flame-retardant UL94 case meeting UL 1778, and PowerSafe OPzV is available with a flame-retardant ABS (UL94 V-0) option.
Is a flame-retardant battery fireproof?
No. A flame-retardant case reduces the risk of a battery feeding a fire, but it does not replace correct charging, ventilation, monitoring and room fire protection. KPS designs all of these together.
Need FR batteries that meet your specification?
Send us the project specification or fire requirements, and we will recommend a compliant EnerSys range.
